UNDERSTAND THE WORK

What does a beginner virtual assistant do?

Responsibilities vary by employer. These are examples of tasks to prepare for, rather than promises about any current vacancy.

01

Inbox & calendar support

Organize messages, draft replies, arrange meetings and check time zones. Practice following instructions and asking for clarification when priorities conflict.

02

Research & data organization

Collect information from named sources, keep a spreadsheet accurate and flag missing details. Explain how you check your work instead of guessing.

03

Task & customer coordination

Track deadlines, prepare status updates and route questions to the right person. Clear written communication helps a remote team understand what needs attention.

SHOW WHAT YOU CAN DO

Three work samples you can create without a client

Use fictional names and information, label each sample as a practice project and keep it short. Never present practice work as paid experience or include another person’s private data.

SAMPLE 01

A meeting coordination pack

Write a meeting invitation, a short agenda and a reminder for a fictional team. Include the relevant time zones and explain how you would handle a scheduling conflict.

SAMPLE 02

A clean task tracker

Create a small spreadsheet with task owners, due dates, status and next steps. Check dates and duplicates, then add a brief note explaining your quality checks.

SAMPLE 03

A customer email draft

Draft a helpful reply to a fictional delivery question. State what you know, what you need to confirm and when you will follow up. Avoid promising an outcome you cannot control.

MAKE YOUR APPLICATION CLEAR

Apply for your first VA role with a practical plan.

You do not need to invent a work history. Use relevant school, volunteer or other experience, explain your contribution and connect it to the advertised tasks.

  1. Read the experience requirement.Check whether no prior professional experience is accepted. A role labelled “junior” may still require previous work, so read beyond the title.
  2. Confirm the remote arrangement.Check acceptance of Philippines-based applicants, time zone overlap, equipment, internet requirements and whether any office attendance is expected.
  3. Match your resume and samples to the tasks.Use a short introduction, relevant examples and accessible portfolio links. Check spelling and link permissions before submitting.
  4. Check the employer and offer details.Confirm who is hiring, the application destination, employment or contractor arrangement, pay currency and schedule. Be cautious about requests to pay to secure a role.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST VA ROLE

Questions from beginner VA applicants

Can I become a virtual assistant with no experience?

Some vacancies accept applicants without prior professional experience. You still need to meet the advertised skill and equipment requirements. Use clearly labelled practice projects and relevant transferable skills to demonstrate your readiness.

Do I need a paid VA course or certificate?

Check the specific vacancy. Do not assume a paid course is required. Start by practising the tasks the employer asks for and sharing work samples; only claim training or certifications you have completed.

What computer and internet setup do I need?

Requirements vary. Read the listing for computer specifications, internet speed, backup arrangements, headset and workspace requirements. Confirm unclear details with the employer before buying equipment.

How much does an entry-level VA earn?

Pay depends on the role, hours, responsibilities and employment arrangement. This page does not set a salary rate. Review the actual vacancy and confirm the amount, currency, payment frequency and any deductions before accepting an offer.

Will I have to work at night?

Some roles require overlap with overseas clients; others follow Philippine hours. Check the stated time zone and exact schedule, including any daylight-saving changes that affect the client’s hours.

How do I apply, and why might there be no openings?

Open a vacancy and use its application option after reviewing the requirements. Some applications continue on an external platform. This hub only shows approved, published, unfilled and unexpired entry-level VA roles meeting its remote and Philippines eligibility criteria. When none qualify, the page says so.
